I most likely disagree, when you're leading a vast army you must have an eye on all the battle. Being in the front melee is just to confusing, the commandment has to be done from the rear .
Besides someone who always goes in front becomes predicteble. With vicious ennemies as the fallens you won't do long before getting into a trap.
Though Alric's spells seems awesomes in the game , you can't take down more than 4 groups of ennemies, at an army's scale it does not means so much.
