I always saw the Myrmidons as living beings that had the same or similar magic that keeps undead like Thrall in one piece. Maybe the magic cast on undead like Thrall is more then one. One to slow down the decay process and one to reanimate them. Maybe even another spell to bind them to your will. And for Myrmidons they just used one part of those spells... slow down the decaying process. So they might have eventually died out.
