: Someone posted a message talking about the origins of the
: level bagrada, and how the trow parallels the
: elephant. (He said in the post something about the
: empires of rome and carthage in the time of jesus
: christ. Actually, it was 200 years before christ, and
: Rome and Carthage were both republics, not empires.
: Contrary to popular belief, elephants played a minor
: role in the secondpunic war, and Hannibal's greatest
: victory over rome was fought at cannae, where he had
: NO ELEPHANTS!) I agree that the trow parallels the
: elephant , though.

I think it's obvious that the naming of Bagrada, the foreshadowing of the Trow's arrival with the 'boom, boom, boom', and the overall atmosphere of the level was an attempt to capture what might have been going through the heads of soldiers when they first encountered an elephant.
I don't know about anybody else, but I near shit myself the first time the booming steps gave way to a big, f**k off giant kicking the mince out of my men.
