: The character we never got to know that I would have
: liked to... the rest of the nine! They sort of gloss
: over them, you know Mazzarin is the most powerful
: Avatara, and you know Rabican fought and defeated
: Shiver with the Head's help. Most of the rest are a
: mystery, and they all die, don't they?

Not counting earlier incarnations of the group, Mazzarin is not one of the Nine, although he is an avatara (search the forums for a long ago question/thread of mine on what exactly the heck "Avatara" means...it seems to be the Myth term for "incredibly powerful individual of Light with magical powers who is probably an archmage and is quite likely to wield a sword". But beyond that, none of the four we know well enough to make any guesses on are alike.)

We don't even know the names of nearly half (four, to be precise) of them, and only have a very vague understanding of Maeldun and Rabican (Murgen less so, and Cu Roi hardly at all). Even Alric is ill defined, although we get a pretty good idea of what to think of him by what we do know, the Nine are basically off there in the background, like Obi-Wan Kenobi watching over Luke in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

"Rabican, Murgen and Maeldun have been dead sixty years, and today only Alric remains of the great leaders who defeated the Fallen Lords."

"Something like a civil war erupted back west, too, as thousands of our own men unexpectedly rose to defend The Head. Two of The Nine were killed, which makes them something like The Three now, if you also subtract Murgen and Cu Roi, who did not escape the destruction of the Tain, and the others who have died this year."
Two of the Nine died against the Head, Cu Roi and Murgen at the Tain, Maeldun and Rabican defending Seven Gates and Bagrada (by all evidence), and the other two unknowns somewhere between the last news the Legion has of the West in TFL and the begining of the next war.

The amazing thing about Myth is that it can say that about these guys and we still think they're pretty special. The odds are so bad that any victory is special. In most games, if you were told that the main leaders of your side got butchered, they'd be a pack of incompetents.

: I also just purchased what claims to be the Myth: TFL
: soundtrack off Amazon (one listed buy a private
: seller). Pretty much made my day today.

Excellent. : )

: I need to think on how storytelling is being done in
: games today, why it seems to be suffering, etc.

: I know I've read a lot about how game designers are
: moving towards delivering a "cinematic"
: experience. I imagine that has a lot to do with it.

I think so, if "cinematic" means light on story, and high on sex and violence.
