In Response To: Re: Myth II Soundtrack (silentsod)

: Thanks for the warm welcome.

Well, since my internet is working poorly I can't challenge you to a death match and ruthlessly blow your units to little tiny bits and gloat at your misery, so this will have to do. : ) Seriously, good to see new people here, this site attracts thoughtful individuals. There's a lot of good (whether treated as true or not) speculation on Myth here, and I'm really hoping you'll contribute to it. We need some new activity. So much either undone or needing to be redone.

: I did indeed lose the fan fiction. I believe I wrote it
: on an Apple Powerbook 5300. Might've been the one we
: got after that... I think my parents finally tossed
: all the old laptop bricks so I won't ever remember.

: I always enjoyed the limited number of units and using
: manuevering and clever use of units (which is why Myth
: is a tactical game) over churning out units and
: endless attacks. One of my best feats was in the days
: I only had the Myth: TFL demo (I actually bought the
: $5 demo, no I didn't keep it :\). My second favorite,
: still to this day, unit is the berserker, so I used
: one to kill everything at Bagrada, I mean everything.
: From the starting waves of thrall and soulless, to the
: recon myrmidons, to the trow at the end (though that
: cost me almost, if not all, my warriors).

No reason to worry about keeping or not keeping the demo, just asking about what you did. Films are really overrated to me. No, I don't mind them, but I save them and then forget about them.
I rather like warriors, dwarves, Hero Units, Alric, and Heron Guards. Berserks are a tad too vulnerable to attacks, but I agree. They're very nice until/unless they start taking damage. Then they don't do as well. Great anti-ghol and (somewhat) anti-Thrall though.

: I haven't played through WC3 as the demo did not engage
: me very well. I prefer to play the original and it's
: sequel. Something about the style of those old games
: trumps the new one.

I can think of several reasons, but this is a Myth forum, so ranting about how Blizzard makes Micro$atan look good would not be fitting. E-mail me if you care to hear the rant, though. : )

: I will say I thought it was just about the coolest thing
: ever when I saw Balor's headless body spraying blood
: up into the air. And they say young kids shouldn't
: play M rated games...

Yeah, I've had Myth far longer than I've been over seventeen, I'm sure. Admitedly, I'm already neurotic ("high functioning" autism) so Myth can only be counted as a minor factor in my insanity.

: Dresses were no longer in vogue.
: I imagine as king there may have been a ceremonial set of
: armor traditionally worn by those on the throne. It
: looks very different from any armor seen on other
: friendly units or other enemies, eastern (to us) in
: design. Closer to the Heron Guard armor than anything
: else, but they seem to be wearing wooden armor.

Now that's an interesting thought. Look at the Journal entries where we have sketches of both Alric in armor and the Herons. Alric seems to be wearing scale armor pads, but the rest is something else. Its not solid plate, except maybe on the torso.

Speaking of Alric, who the -heck- drew the clown-makeup looking avatara (Myth TFL introduction), and who are the other guys standing around him?
Its..weird. Even for Myth.

Anyway. Speaking of the original subject, what's your favorite part of the Myth music?

I rather like the (from TFL) Seven Gates one. It feels like the core of what makes Myth appealing. The struggle and triumph if it is a triumph fight. Myth 2 lacks that, and Myth 3 never captures that at all, despite the fact the Myrkridia are "nightmares made flesh".

Its a prequel thing, I think, but its also the fact that Connacht is just -too- good at winning.

In TFL, the Nine are desperately scrambling to find some way of resisting the Fallen.
In Myth 2, Alric is winning "easily" with the help of at least two ancient artifacts (the Ibis Crown, Balmung) and a hundred of the best warriors in Myth's history, as well as having a far superior grasp on generalship than Soulblighter.
Myth 3, Connacht is "When we win", there's no "if" at all.

Related to this thought...

Who would you describe as your all time favorite Myth character?
Favorite as in, if you could go the Myth world and meet people, who would you pick.

I'm nominating Alric. I'm a sucker for heroic kings, blame it on too much Arthurian mythology and LotR.
Maeldun as well, though. The man is exhausted, but he sees his city half in ruins and his only thought is "How can I get vengenace/justice on the scum that did this". No hesitation. And actual ability. We could use some guys like that.

Long post, yes. But you saw my post where my unit type is revealed as an Overposter, which is like a spammer but without the crud. Most of the crud.

May your dwarves never throw duds. : )
