In Response To: Re: Myth II Soundtrack (silentsod)

: Thanks for the link!

Welcome.

: Sadly not much as the people who post here and have their
: mad articles forever archived in the legends and lore
: are more thinking about the Myth series than I ever
: managed.

: Though Myth prompted me to write my first fan fiction
: ever at the tender age of ten... All I really remember
: is everyone died at Crow's Bridge except for a dwarf
: (who for reasons unknown to me have always been my
: favorite units) and the warrior who shielded him from
: the last satchel charge's blast.

Let me guess, you (like ninety-nine-point-nine-nine-nine-eight percent of us) lost that fan fiction since. : ( If not, post the sucker.

: My interest with Myth was much stronger a number of years
: ago and as such I am not up to snuff in regards to the
: actual lore of the universe or any current theories.
: There had been a time when I had read every page on
: the site, but my decrepit old memory fails me now. I
: still consider it the pinnacle of story telling in a
: game (moreso than Marathon as when I first played
: those I tended to skim the terminal text and blast
: away). I'll have to reread this site and it's been
: almost a year since I played through the games (though
: I never completed Myth III, indeed, didn't get through
: half the game).

: I have many wonderful memories and some old saved films
: from these games.

Myth really is fantastic. In say, Warcraft, there's not really a sense of tactical triumph (normally)...its the strategy equivalant of button mashing mastery.
But in Myth, when you stand over the piles of Thrall that your dwarves and warriors have sent back to the grave, knowing that you have managed to buy just enough time for Alric to spring his trap upon the Watcher, which may just allow you to win the war...now that's awesome.

That, and Myth explosions make Warcraft (3)'s explosions look like crap. Warcraft has several merits, I'm sure, but it lacks cool explosions, cool music, and the literary merit that makes Myth > anything else, Ever.

Note: I've played Warcraft 1, 2 (and its expansion pack) as well as won all the campaigns for 3 and Frozen Throne, as well as Myth TFL, Myth 2 (parts of The Seventh God and Chimeria), and some of Myth 3 (the graphics leave something to be desired, I can't quite say how)

Anyway, the thing on mad theories is not so much universe canon as just...questions, comments, observations, kind of stuff.

Someone, whose name escapes me at the moment, asked about -horses- in Myth, for Wyrd's sake. Horses. Nothing earthshaking, but hey, it was interesting to come up with some logical BS as to why Bungie didn't include them other than game design/coding issues.

That's the kind of thing that keeps this place worthwhile, not the theories behind why the Leveller has always been a male (sometimes a crossdresser, but we're not going there...), but the amusing and weird and tidbits hinted at or ill explained.

Like why Alric wore a dress (pardon, robe) in Myth TFL but doesn't in Myth 2?

There's no canon answer for that (I think), but any theory would be worth posting just for laughs and giggles. Just as long as it doesn't involve fetch porn. I think Forrest would have to specifically okay that first, and RL seems to be keeping him busy.

That, and any memories of any particular bit of superb fighting in the campaign.

Anyway, I'm rambling. By all means, contribute anything you think is worth reading. If its already been said, that's okay. If not, we may actually have something interesting to talk about.

In the words of a drunken Brigand
"This is fun. Don't need to make no sense to be fun, man."
