TCP/IP problems

Ok, I'm relatively new to the world of Myth, though I've been a longtime Bungie fan. My problem is that I can't seem to join network games, even on my local network. My friend hosts a network game, but it doesn't show up in the list when I try to join. Did I miss something in the manual, or is there just something wrong with me?
