Mahir origins....

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted here, and with Halo 2 being Bungie's huge endeavor I'm sure the Mythworld has taken somewhat of a backseat. that's okay, there are still us dedicated Myth-fans, right? :) Anyway, I have a story for you:
So I'm taking my little brother and his friend to see a movie yesterday. They want to see "White Noise". Well, about twenty minutes into the movie you catch a glimpse at these things emerging from the shadows behind the main character. Very creepy. This happens a lot during the movie: three male-like figures appear out of the shadows...and they never seem, shall we say, friendly. Well, it scared the piss outta me (which is extremely rare) b/c these things were menacing and reminded me of my childhood when I used to sort of see stuff like that. When I left the movie I had this compelling notion that aside from my early experiences I had seen these things before somewhere else. Then it dawned on me, they were "Shadow People".
What the hell does this have to do with Myth, you ask?
Well, Shadow People are a phenomena that people claim to see along the same lines as ghosts, for more info just Google Shadow People. They are very mysterious and have sometimes been reported as having red eyes. What has red eyes, is menacing, and disappears into the same black shadow that seems to make it? The Mahir. When I played Myth II I was always entertained by the enemies in the game. They were architypal in a sense and a lot of fun, they were cool. All except the Mahir. I didn't like those. I still don't. Now I know why: the Mahir are direct copies of the Shadow People. Sure the Mahir were never very hard to kill but you always needed one extra person to do it. Why? B/c the Mahir drain the life of a single prey. The Shadow People, while never known to be violent, have often been seen as "evil". They also are rarely seen for more than a split second. They appear usually in our perephrial vision and are gone in a flash. It would make sense that it would take two people to kill a Shadow Person if it attacked b/c the theory is that the Shadow Person can only avoid detection from one set of eyes, so if two were there and it attacked the other person could see it and effectively kill it. This is supported by the fact that the Shadow People are typically seen by someone who is alone and not in any well lit areas.
Sure, this isn't that important, hell it may even be something that was talked about four years ago. I have no clue. But regardless I found the connection compelling and decided that it would be worthy (hopefully) of posting on the site. So there you, the history and origins of the Mahir in Myth II can be found in the mythic and mysterious "Shadow People", a threat more frightening than Myrkridia/Werewolves ever were....b/c there's no bedsheet thick enough to protect you from a Shadow Person!
