Origins of the Heron?

Just a question: When did the order of the Heron Guards orginate? Was it during the time of Connacht? After? I have tried to look through the fieldguide/journal entries of all three games and cannot find any mention of their origin. I don't even think I saw any mention of them in Myth III. Any help on this would be great.
