I was wondering if anyone else thought that the 1200-year timespan given for Trow rule over the Oghre was an error.
It leads to the Oghre being enslaved late in the Age of Reason, which doesn't really jibe with the Trow statement that "man was a simple beast unworthy of notice" when the Trow and the Oghre first confronted each other. By that time there had been a prominent Human Leveller, defeated by sorcery...the Cath Bruig Empire had been founded...and if you go by GURPS the advanced Human kingdom of Yer-Ks was flourishing. Even the Trow would have acknowledged human accomplishments at this point, especially given that they thought more primitive races like Ghôls worth talking to--and for that matter the Oghres in the TFL comic look pretty primitive too.
Also, the Trow explain that the Oghres' slavery lasted "even during the periods your people called Golden Ages." Note that "periods" is plural, strongly implying that the time of slavery lasted through multiple Light Ages. This is hard to do if it's only 1200 years long...you'd only be talking about the last 200 years of the Age of Reason and the first decade or so of the Wolf Age, which seems like stretching it.
My thought is that the TFL comic was written back when Bungie planned each age as 500 years long instead of 1000--so under the revised Cycle, the Trow Empire should have lasted for 2400 years or longer. Then the Trow would have enslaved the Oghre back in the Axe Age some time, which makes more sense to me.
GURPS recognizes the 12th-century timespan--probably reading it straight out of the Comic but M3 pretty much ignores it and implies a longer period of enslavement in its prologue, so maybe we could treat this as an erratum and go for 2400 years without screwing with most players' heads.
