Heron Avenger

Flavor Texts

"...after returning the ruins of what was once the great city of Llancarfan, these men chose to avenge their lost honour through their swords."

"...Not since the days of Clovis had the capital of the Cath Bruig Empire fallen to a foe, even through the Wind Age, when the Myrkridia seemed to be devouring humanity into extinction."

Appearance and stuff: Normal Heron Guard unit
Same stats for having the speed of a warrior and the health of a Heron Guard Hero, attacks swifter than a normal Heron Guard, does more damage (both only slightly increased).

-----------------------------------------------------------

To all who have read my Journal Fiction, I should explain the purpose of this unit. (To those who haven't, read it and you might understand this better. Dairmuid is the Avatara who is writting the Journal)

After the Fall of Muirthemne, when Dairmuid and the century of Heron Guards entered the city, the vast majority of the Heron ranks took upon a penitent role to atone for their absense during the fall of the city, and became the Journeymen.

A few Heron Guards however chose a different path, following the Avatara in a quest for vengeance on the fiend who slew their lord and tainted their formerly spotless honour. They became known as the Avengers, and the mere mention of their name is said to have scared even the Fallen Lords. But few ordinary soldiers knew of them, even the now legendary Isen, the legonary Captain whose journal provides much of what little we know about the Great War.

Of the Nine, only Durak and Alric knew about them, after Dairmuid's death defending Convenant from Soulblighter, and both used them when their was no other choice, for the Avengers became increasingly deranged after Dairmuid's fall, the thought of vengeance destroying their minds. The last of these Avengers, Three Bear Sun died in the battle at the Star of Grief that defeated the Deceiver at the end of the Great War, leaving him sealed beneath the ice and snow of the pass.

It is not known why Alric kept them secret, and little is recorded as to what missions these fanatical warriors were sent upon, nor why the other Heron Guards refuse to speak of them, growing cold and angry at the mere mention of their dead brothers in arms.

------------------------------------------------------------

The non Mythical reason behind these units is simple that there were Heron Guards that followed Dairmuid (according to my "discoveries", i.e my work) that had not become penitent Journeymen like their brothers, but instead sought the path of war to achieve their redemption.

Should anyone wish to make a campaign of my Journal Fiction, or any other scenario set in the pre TFL Great War era feel free to use my speculations. (Top section) It is unlikely but not impossible that a scenario set during the time of TFL would also see these Avengers, as well.

I only request that I be granted the credit for what is mine, and that you ask me first.

Martel, who some long time ago discussed how some of the Herons would have chosen this path (Buried in the forums now, I don't remember it well enough to look for and then post a link, but it should be there) also deserves some credit.

Cheers for Myth and cheers for those loyal/fanatical ayslumers who kept this site going!

P.S. And of course, cheers for the new comers that have been posting. Glad to see this site will continue with both new and old blood.
