The creatures that are burrying the Thrall are not Thrall; they are Myrmidons: notice the missing lower jaw and the red sash and weird armor. I also have an explanation for the picture of Soulblighter standing above the dead men: in the description about him that appears when you click on the bastard it says that he learned how to prolong his life with HUMAN SACRIFICE and self-mutilation. Now what do you need for human sacrifice? That's right! Living people.
