A long, long, looooong time ago someone (this was back in 1999 so I forget who), posted a thought that 1) suggested that Forrest Heart and the Ermine were two ends of an old forest that stretched from the site of the Free Cities all the way into the Untaimed Lands, but had been cut in half by Mankind's expansion, and 2) That the Forest Giants were something like, I don't know, Guardians of life and light.
So, theoretically, if the Dark (in this case Balor or Soulblighter) had mounted a serious effort to destroy Forest Heart and the remaining Giants, not only would the Light have lost from a strategic perspective (remember without the Giants Seven Gates would have folded years before it actually did), but indeed life as they knew it would cease to exist in the land of Myth.
Personally, I can see a few possibilities here, since the FG's were based on the Giants from The Lord of the Rings, who were (at least I gathered as much) protectors and Guardians of nature, which was why they hated Orc's so much.
Yeah I know it doesn't have much to back it up. But from what I've read the board needs some new discussion material, so I thought I'd bring an old, forgotten idea and toss it around again.
