: Um... Just, no. (A) Black holes are not holes, strictly
: speaking or otherwise. (B) Black holes crush matter to
: about the size of an atom, no matter how large it is.
: (C) What the hell kind of science fiction do you
: read/watch? (D) Black holes have absolutely nothing to
: do with time.
How doy ou know black holes aren't hols? How is it that you know exactly wat black holes do, and what they have to do with, when even the foremost expers readily admit that everything put forward so far on black holes is based on theory, not fact? Is it true just because you've seen it in a movie? Perhaps salad saw a different movie than you did, which gave him a different "truth" to go by?
Black holes may very well have a lot to do with time, it has been theorized about for years now that one of the gateways to time travel may be through manipulations of wormholes (the doorways of which are supposedly black holes).
Why do you even need to ask what kind of science fiction he reads? If you're basing you're entire opinion on what you read in star trek books, then, "ugh" to you to! Break the phrase up. "Science" "fiction". As in, fictional science. As in, this didnt really happen in a time long long a go in a galaxy far far away, it just popped into some dudes head one night while he was sittin on his couch, flat broke, tryin to get some spending money so he can pay for cable, beer and back issues of the victoria's secret catalogue. "Fiction". Say it with me: "F-i-c-t-i-o-n".
: NEWBS! LISTEN UP! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TALK ABOUT
: ASTROPHYSICS UNLESS YOU HAVE EVEN A DIM UNDERSTANDING
: OF IT! REALLY, PEOPLE. Oh, and EAT CHEESE.
: what? just... ugh.
Now doom, I like you, I think you're enthusiastic, I think you're motivated, but I think you are in desperate danger of becoming a hypocrite. Because I highly doubt that you are an expert in astrophysics-in fact, since you've given the impression that all your knowledge of the afore mentioned topic comes from science fiction, I doubt that you even have a "dim understanding" of the subject.
Don't have n00bs because they're n00bs : ) Love them for having a common interest as you, guide them, cherish them, and supply them with all the annoying little answers that we all KNOW because we've been stating them over and over for years, but they've never been exposed to before. At least be nice to them. Or even ignore them-but don't belittle them. They haven't insulted your intelligence, so don't insult theirs.
And salad, I actually thought it was a pretty interesting idea. Care to elaborate more on it?
