BTF, Before The Fall

This is a "Other Fiction" style work I wrote out of boredom.
Seriously.

I don't really want to see this posted up in that catagory, although I would not mind.

Any questions or comments would be actively encouraged.

Also, any ideas for parts 3 and onward for Diarmuid's story would also be welcome. (posted in the Journal Fiction catagory thanks to Gholsbane)

(BEGIN STORY)

Six Wolf Stone stood awaiting the command of the Emperor.
Despite the might of Balor’s armies, the Empire of the Cath Bruig still stood. As the last remains of the army of Llancarfan prepared to defend the city, the loosely organized city-states of the West, known as the Province watched and waited at the passes of Bagrada and Seven Gates.

The Emperor spoke: “Six Wolf, reports have arrived that the Province is sending a force to aid us against the Balor.” “However, the passes are thinly manned, and if they are not reinforced soon, shall undoubtedly fall.”
“What are your orders my Emperor?” Six Wolf asked.
“I wish you to lead a picked century of Heron Guards. You will report to the Archmage Diarmuid who guards the pass of Bagrada and aid him its defense.“

“Pardon me, my Emperor, but surely we need every man we can spare to defend Muirthemne against Balor.” Six Wolf said in a worried tone of voice.

The Emperor nodded, but then shook his head. “The towering walls of Llancarfan have protected it since Clovis, and surely we will be able to hold for a fortnight at most as you help Diarmuid hold the Cloudspine.”

Six Wolf’s heart was heavy, but he did not question his Emperor. Emperor Ceiscoran had been a wise and just ruler in the last years of peace, and had lead the Imperial army to victory against Balor’s Dark hordes. But a sixth sense, unexplained but universally accepted by the Guard, warned him something dark and dangerous, more so then normal, would lay ahead.

If Ceiscoran was wrong, the century of Heron Guards that he was assigned to lead might just be the factor that tipped the scales between Victory, and Defeat.
