No, the test is, can it pass SOME levels on its own but not ALL of them? If any unit can pass Shiver on its own, it's too powerfull. Shiver is a good test in that way, at least.

Basically each units gets an uberpower in one area but weaknesses elsewhere. My old unit was completely invincible to ranged fire due to it's shield, so Soulless meant nothing to me, I could ignore them. I had a dispersal Berserk spell that made living units go crazy and kill eachother and unhealed undead units, so any hordes stood against me went down to almost nothing. But a single Krid? I'm dead.

William Wallace had a unit that could charge into battle shooting fire from his eyes and lightning from his ass (actually we just combined it into a fireball-fart special action). This completely annihilated hordes. Then he also kicked major ass one on one, like Alric level or more. So he was an unbalanced unit. (Loads of fun to see a Scotsman named Willy farting fireballs sounded by the blare of a loudhorn, though).

That's actually another good suggestion... every unit has to have something funny and creative. I think the funniest unit we used to have was Milk Man, who was a Warlock that shot screaming peasants that exploded like nuclear deer as his primary, and then had a homing KILLR DETH SKWIRRL special attack that was even more explosive. When he scored a kill, he quipped "Pimpin' ain't easy... but it suuure is fun!"

Lets see... I like the balance of my old unit, it suits me well. Ranged attacks, I don't even notice them - if you're not on my forum, you don't know squat about Myth, so don't even bother me until you're on my turn. Likewise, I can dispatch hordes of mindless idiots without breaking a sweat. But one brave soul stands up against me and charges me face to face, THEN I've got a challenge. Maybe give my lightning attack a "NI!" sound effect, and my mass-confuse a long "ecky ecky ecky ecky p'kang ZOOK boing zioulowdloodly (ni!)" sound effect. I can provide these sounds if neccesary. Ooh and a taunt... I've got the perfect one... Tim the Enchanter: "DEATH awaits you all, with nasty, big, pointy teeth!"

Yes, I am a Python geek, and not in the cool web programmer way.
