Weren't the Myrms good at one point? I thought they were a cousin-clan to the Berserks, who were ancient allies of Balor. Connacht just saw another bunch of tough dudes with swords who didn't have any good place in his kingdom.
After Balor was "possessed", the Myrms were repulsed. But he took advantage of their pride and vanity, and promised them "immortality" much like Sauronb's Ring extended life* -- just aging and aging, but never dying. At this point, the Myrms were severely ticked at decided to kill all those soft, pink-fleshed prigs who were happy and carefree. After all, if your wife looked like a mummy, how would you feel about every other husband who's wife didn't? ;)
*Yes, I know. Sauron's Ring technically stopped mortals from aging. They just "faded". But Gollum looks pretty old, regardless of how he got that way. =P Fanatics, put down your swords.
