Summoner--who is he?

I have often wondered why such a powerful man as the Summoner gets so little mention in the story. I have read here on b.org the opinion that Alric will soon die, and the age is dark, so my thought is that in the level in M2, the Summoner comes back, and did not "die". It is not, after all, very easy to kill powerful mages forever. Perhaps he will play some greater role in M4 (dare we hope). Perhaps also he is a reincarnation on Moagim (although that is unlikely in Alric is the Moagim-spirit). But the Summoner has a lot to do with raising the Myrkridia, and it is not clear to me if the humans get rid of them, further evidence that the current age as of M2 is going to be dark.
Any thoughts on this?
