Although I haven't made any conclusions for myself as of yet about who the head may or may not be, I believe that Soulblighter may very well have wanted Balor gone. Soulblighter may have read the Codex, and, if so, he knows about the Summoner who shows up in Myth II. He obviously isn't against the idea of resurrecting the Myrkridia, as he brings every last one he can out of the Tain's shard in Myth II. Remember that Balor completely loathed the Myrkridia, as he was once Connacht, after all. So Soulblighter might have felt that a change in the leadership of the Dark was in order. That's my opinion at least, and it supports an alliance between Soulblighter and the head. (not to put down on the Balor being the head theory, or any of the others for that reason, though)
