Maybe the forces of order and chaos are in conflict too. I read this sieries of books where the Dark Powers are the enemy. They are a force dedicated to one end. It says history/order and chaos/chance are like a seesaw. They try to promote one over the other and the magicians help order if the Dark Powers are helping chaos and vice versa. If order wins you get Stasis. Nothing new happens. If chance wins you get Chaos, where earth, sea, sky, and everything else is swirled together in an unrecognizeable thing. Maybe the conflict between history/order and chaos/chance goes on along with the dark/light conflict. But for the A-spirit hero, the chance one, chaos gains the upper hand brifely, resulting in the early death of Balor. And the Dark Powers didn't sense and think like people. The Leveler's probably like that too.
