Forrest's Connections - tons of info *PIC*

Hi, I'd like to add some comments about this article:
http://myth.bungie.org/legends/delusions/forrest_connections.html

Firstly, the word "Trow". Trow is an Old English word. You can find the dictionary meaning here: http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=trow

About Necromany: You can read about it here: http://necromancy.eigen-domein.com/necromance.html There could be another Roman connection there.

There is a part of the map called "The Province". An area of the Roman Empire was called that... a part of south eastern France is still called that today.

I'd like to point out that the Myth map looks alot more like the Lord Of The Rings worldmap than France.

"The Tiber". As written here: http://www.gamespot.com/features/tenspot_monsters/screens/wight2.jpg . "The Tiber" (usually spelled "Tibre") was & still is the river that flows through the city of Rome.

Now, I'd like to comment on this paragraph:
"Also, ever notice the similarity between Trow and Roman architecture? And in the above Pathways storyline, it says the freak cult of immortals moved farther south to escape the notice of the Holy Roman Empire. And we know the Callieach were under seige by the Trow. So, could the Trow perhaps be the "weird and frightening monsters under his control", where "he" is some ruler in the Roman Empire? So the Romans sicked their Trow on the Callieach, and then later the Trow rebelled against their masters and took control of their lands. The only problems I see with this theory so far are that Rome was east (and slightly south) of France, but their empire may have spread to the north (forgive me, I'm not a history/geography major) to where we currently find the Trow empire. As a matter of fact, on the map from which I took the above image of Crusade-Era France, there's a large nation to the east, bordering France on all sides but the southwest, which I presume to be the Roman Empire (in fact, it's even labled "the empire"). "

Well, about the Romans (& Franks): The Roman state was founded as the Kingdom of Rome in 753 BC. It became a Republic a couple of centuries later. They fought three wars with the Carthiginians, and final defeat came over Carthage in 146bc - the Romans saw Carthage as a country created by the gods to test their worthyness. The Romans continued to expand, become corrupt over time, fought many civil wars, became a de-facto kingdom again, converted to Christianity, and eventually spilt into two countries - the West Roman Empire, and the East Roman Empire. The Western Roman Empire fell under continuous attack & eventually fell to a Teutonic tribe in 476ad. However, the Eastern Roman Empire survived until 1453ad. The Eastern Roman Empire was geographically located around modern-day Greece & Turkey - far away from France & Germany. For historical & mainly religious reasons, historians have long tended to disregard the East Roman Empire as being a continuation of the Roman state.
Much of Europe, until relatively recently, was enthralled in wonder of Rome etc (now we know better).
Now, about the Franks. This explains about Clovis (founder of France in 486ad) quite well: http://www.ucalgary.ca/applied_history/tutor/firsteuro/frank.html . Although the Franks were a Teutonic (Germanic) people, they became French-speaking & assimilated over time.
The Frankish Empire was split in the 9th century after Emperor Charlemagne died, and became 3 parts. (Events surrounding the term "Holy Roman Empire" are complicated, see: http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire .) One of these parts (Germany) later became entitled as the "Holy Roman Empire" - offically recognised by the Catholic Church as being a continuation of the Roman Empire. (It was a continuation of Rome in name only.) This state survived until 1806. The Holy Roman Empire shown in the "Crusades era" (a post-crusades map because it shows none of the territory controlled by the Burgandinian & Norman kindoms?) map had little to do with the Roman Empire proper.

Basically, this sentence sounds ridiculous because these two leaders lived centuries apart:
"Clovis moved the settlement farther south in the mountains, nearer the spring, to escape the notice of Charlemaligne and later the Holy Roman Empire."
Unless it is meant to be that Clovis had been alive for several centuries.

It is worth mentioning that "...border of the Roman Empire to the Danube River. During a skirmish with barbarians in Raetiain (the mountains near the border of modern France and Switzerland), 117 men under Gaius Licinius Marc... " could have something to do with the barbarians that invaded Rome. In their twilight years, the Romans actually hired barbarians to fight for them. The Romans were very arrogant & viewed the barbarians as uncivilized brutes.

Of the "Callieach": http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/2803/basics/celt2.htm and here: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Atrium/3958/goddess1.htm#cailleach
Now the "Caledonii" tribe, as mentioned in that first page, are more or less the Scottish (the Scottish-like Berserks?). It also mentions a "Gwyon" in one of the Berserk flavors - Gwyon is another Geltic sounding name. The word "berserk" is actually a Viking word, see: http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=berserk for more info.
There is more info about the Caledonii at this link (scroll down): http://www.britarch.ac.uk/ba/ba7/ba7lets.html , the Romans battled with them & almost wiped them out.

I've got the feeling that the makers of Myth simply dug through a number of books on history & olde lore, & compiled together all the pieces which have become Myth.

Below is a map of the Roman Empires when they split, and a map of Europe at 1000Ad.
