In Response To: Poor Widdew Peasants (Demosthenes)

: I know this doesn't have any direct bearing on how Myth
: soldiers felt about civilians, but one might remember
: that TFL was largely based on The Black Company books.
: And in the Black Company series, peasents were treated
: pretty poorly, and seen as nuciences who had little
: bearing on the larger scheme of things.

Yes, but remember that the Black Company was a mercinary band, with no real ties to the people they were encountering. Also most of the men of the company (Whitey comes to mind) were thugs who were probably running from the law, like One Eye and Tom-tom.

By the 17th year of war, most of the men of the Northen armys where probably from the area of the free citys, simply because most of the southern troops had already been killed off.

: Heck, in later books(minor spoiler), camp
: followers(basicly parasitic civilians that followed
: the armies around) were used as cannon fodder in some
: battles, basicaly just driven into the enemy by the
: hundreds as a diversion.

Yeah, but Croaker did not like camp followers, so I was not that supprised.

: One more quasi-cannon piece of evidence, the villager
: flavor text from the TFL beta 3: "The humble
: farmers who feed the western nations, suffering the
: worst in
: any conflict, conscripted before age 15 to block the
: passes of Bagrada
: and Seven gates with their bodies."

But the text was later changed to "...conscripted before age 15 to fight the Fallen Lords." Any sociaty facing destruction will send even its young out to fight.

: Pretty mean if you ask me:P

Yeah, sucks for them;)
