Inmates of the Asylum *PIC*

Deep under the great, walled citadel of the city of Llancarfan, beneath the Mausoleum of the Cath Bruig, below the Catacombs of Tireces, Clovis, Ceiscoran, and the great soldiers and defenders of the city who made its existence possible, down at the very foundation of the fortress, lies a place unseen by sane eyes and the rays of sunshine in countless aeons.

A Heron Guard’s life is the most strenuous and exhausting of any being’s on earth. A Heron must always be alert, defend all things Bruig, forge on in every possible circumstance, good or bad, and yet still carry on with all the impossible knowledge in his head, no release or restbit ever in sight.

After hundreds of years beyond the natural human life span, a Heron Guard’s mind will become so bogged down with emotional stress and mental overloading, delerium is a logical, common, and inevitable end for these sage-warriors, the most respected people in the great expanse of the Empire after the Emperor himself. They descend from the order of their training and war into chaos as it flies up around them, swirling and dancing in their heads, on their heads, and jabbing them with little forks and bopping them with tiny wands.

They go insane, finally cracking under the strain of their existence, shattering from their once ridgid and lithic forms. These Herons make wild and outrageous claims out of their clouded and raving state, such as being able to see the future, horrified by the death of the past and future, and fortelling the doom of all. The saddest thing a young Heron must do is drag his former master kicking and screaming, down into the depths of the darkest realms of the earth, burried away from the world so such a blemish on the crown will not be visible to the people of the Cath Bruig, these formerly glorious experts of magery, armory, philosophy, and humanity renderred raving madmen, entombed forevermore.

This has happened to only a select few in the time of the history of the Cath Bruig, which has been indeed a long time. The loss of these heroes has gone unnoticed by the public eye…but perhaps, one day, in the distant future where such cyclic things no longer have meaning, they will escape their prison, be, perhaps by accident, released to the world again as they squint their eyes in the bright light of the sun, taking it by storm as they declare all they have solved and deciphered upon the earth.

So will be unleashed the Inmates of the Asylum.
