By now I'm sure everybody has seen the new pic of Ravanna for m3. Aside from her strong resemblance to Xena, the thing that stood out most to me was her title, "Myrmidon Hero". This set the ol' brain gears in motion, and after a little(very little) thought, I came to the conclusion that ALL myrmidons may in fact be female. Let's take a look at the facts we know.
First, the myrmidon flavor text says that they "were most vain about their long hair and body paint, spending the eve of battle before a mirror rather than in a bedroll." I always just assumed that myrms were just long-haired dudes that were in touch with their femininity, but you gotta give it some thought:) One also has to remember that Shiver was extreamly vain, even to the point of it being a weakness.
Secondly, we have the myrmidon units themselves. If one takes a close look at them, one will notice that they have some very strategicaly placed strips of cloth on their chests, which would just cover the area that would most need covering were they not dessicated and mummified.
Last, there's the simple fact that Myrmidons are NEVER referred to specificaly as male. This isn't a very convincing piece of evidence in itself, but it just shows that there's nothing which directly disproves my theory.
One thing I considered was the names of individual Myrms. Names like Lifedoom, Hearttear, and Skinpeel aren't very feminine. But then I remembered that one of the pre-release names of the fallen lords was Bonesplitter, a VERY myrmidon-ish name.
In the Delusions section of L&L, it's assumed that Bonesplitter is simply an alternate name for the Lurker, but I think the new information from m3 pretty reasonably gives the title to Shiver.
Ok, that's all I've got for now. I could include me and Iron's mad theory of a love triangle between Ravanna, Damas, and Myrdred, but that's for another day I think:)
