Hey guys,
I got some hot shit on the true origin of a certain Kingdom in MythWorld.
In Celtic Myth, there was a city known as Ys off the coast of Brittany in the North of France across the water from Cornwall. Since there was a strong connection between the Cornish people and the Bretons, it was often known as Ker Ys, adding the Cornish prefix.
This city was ruled by the King Gradlon and had strong nautical trade routes but they faced the major problem of coping with a high sea-level. They devised a system of locks and walls to contain the waters, however, which worked very well...for a while.
Anyway, Dahut, the daughter of the King's adviser Saint Guenole (Winwaloe in Cornwall) was prophesied by her father to eventually bring about the city's downfall.
She fell in love with a demon from the sea called Cado who himself wanted the city to be destroyed. Under his influence, Dahut willingly gave him the keys to the sea barriers and...well, I don't need to tell you what happened next.
Well, the city became submerged and Dahut drowned having been abandoned by her family and now by Cado. She is said to appear occasionally in the form of a siren and the sight of her is a bad omen.
So, Mr. Jones et al. of Bungie are flicking through their mythology books one day when they stumble upon this tale of woe.
"Aha!", exclaims Jason, "I believe we have something for our game. Let's shove it in...here! Wait a minute, I don't like that name, let's change it. Yeah, Yer Ks sounds so much better than Ker Ys."
And so it came to pass that Myth had a Sunken Kindom of Yer Ks which you will all find in the top-left hand corner of any Myth map, well maybe not the Myth 3 one (it might not be sunk then...hehe), but who knows.
This ties in very well with Forrest's theory that MythWorld is in fact France.
