: Assuming the top of the map is always North, correct..
: this may not be true, though.
Going by the in-game engine, yes it is. Of course, level designers could always introduce something like "the top is actually East in this level", but to my knowledge that's never happened, and levels seem to be designed with these compass points in mind.
: Could you explain how you got that? I have an idea how,
: but I'm a little fuzzy on the specifics.
When you're in the northern hemisphere the sun is always in to the south of you, except in the height of summer when its more overhead depending on your latitude. When in the southern hemisphere its in the north, as per the Myth world. Living near the equator must be weird, as for different seasons it'd be alternately north or south of you.
: Both possible, though I'd say the second one's a bit
: unlikely:).
Who are we to say what's likely or unlikely in Mythworld? I'd guess at a spherical world with tilted access that orbits its sun though, as evidenced by the presence of seasons, and the existence of at least one major moon from which the concept of months is derived.
: Where does it say the north is frozen?
Well, that depends on your definition of what "it" is. If you mean the journals and flavor texts, then I don't think there's anything. If there is, then the north is indeed frozen despite being closer to the sun, which while weird, would have to be accepted. What I was referring to were countless allusions to the north of Mythworld, both here in the Asylum and in 3rd-party plugins such as Homeland (which I am not knocking in any way, shape or form btw!).
Anyway, don't take what I'm saying too seriously. Its just evidence of a software-engineer's sourcecode-addled brain running out of control.
cheers,
