The Millenia Club and other chronological crap

Has anyone noticed how extremely old Connacht seemed to have been?

According to a lot sources he was the hero of the Wind Age. His rise was during the Second Era.

Balor flavor text, Myth: TFL>

This might very well not be Connacht, but rather Tireces, but there is no source that states that Tireces ever vanquished the Dark like Connacht did nor that he rose in the East. Of course, this might just be due to fanatic nostalgia of those silly members of the Heron Guard, exaggerating everything Connacht did... It would, however, be very pointless to write about Tierces in a flavor on Balor.

In the Wind Age he defeats and traps the Myrkridia, imprisons the Trow, almost kills The Watcher and defeats Moagim. Whew. Lot's done.

Now, it could be that Connacht rose, but waited a long-ass time to do anything about the nasty forces of the Dark after his famous rising in the East, but that seems very unlikely to have given him so much good publicity. He obviously went to work atonce, dealing with the Dark swiftly.

What else happened in the Second Era?

If we take a look at the Myth II epilogue, we learn that one of the Leveler's incarnations "was immobilized by sorcery, beheaded and burned at the stake in the Second Era." Then "A thousand years later he was drawn and quartered on the plains before Ileum..." And finnally "in the Fourth Era his body was destroyed by fire, his ashes mixed with salt and buried under the Mountains of Kor." This would mean that Connacht is well over a thousand years old. The Myth II manual glossary says "Ruling during a golden age of peace, Connacht disappeared from Muirthemne, and was thought to be dead. Centuries later, Connacht returned as Balor, The Leveler..." There is nothing said of how long Connacht ruled, but it could've been for an obscenely long time for all we know. The problem in all this would be that if Connacht was more than 1,200 years old, he might've not been the one who destroyed the very empire he had built. And going by the numbered Eras that are mentioned in Myth, they seem to be something like a millenia each. That could mean that Connacht was no less than 2,000 years old when he finally got his head dunked into The Great Devoid. Not to mention that The Watcher seemed to have been at least as old as Connacht, if not older yet.

On top of all this Mazzarin, the most powerful avatara of the Four Ages according to one of the avatara flavors of Myth: TFL, was killed during the Wind Age. Mazzarin was the one who collapsed the shrine of Nyx on Sinis. Sinis must then be over 1,000 years old. Sinis tells Alric in "Out of the Barrier" that he wagers Alric had though he'd seen the last of him. That would in turn mean that Alric is over 1,000 years old. Moreover Damas, Soulblighter, Twice Born, who seems to actually have been one of Connacht's lieutenants must be over a millenia old, too. And while we're at it, Myrdred seems to know Damas very well. Could it be that he is also bankrupting whatever pension funds that might be in existance in the world of Myth?

And then there's a difficulty with the Four Ages spoken of in one of the Myth: TFL Avatara flavors. There are not four ages spoken of, but rather six of them. They are, with the exception of the Axe Age, placed in what at the moment seems a fairly accurate chronological order; The Age of Reason, The Wind Age, The Age of Light, The Wolf Age and the Sword Age. The Axe Age seems to be mentioned but once.

Wolf flavor from Myth II>

There might be more than one name for certain ages, but it seems as if at least five ages are quite separate times. Names of individuals, transient divinities, avataras, sorcerors and what-have-you can always be more than one, but Ages...? Maybe The Wolf Age, The Sword Age and The Axe Age and the Wind age are just minor Ages and not one of *the* Four Ages, unlike The Age of Reason and The Age of Light.

Please let me know if I'm beating the ol' horse unbeknowst to myself. I haven't followed the Myth story discussions since back when Orange still kept his site up.

Oh, and do correct me where ever I'm wrong if that happens to be the case.
