Canon information list:
1.) Ingame texts
2.) Ingame playing
3.) Manuals
That's it. There is nothing else that can possibly be canon, and I don't even think Manuals should be there. Now, this quickly comes to the question of GURPS, and why it isn't there.
GURPS is not canon because:
1.) Contradictions galore!
2.) Bungie's original writers didn't write it.
3.) Bungie's original writers didn't review it, OK it, or assist with it.
4.) It's no more than the incredible story of Myth compacted and altered to fit into the GURPS Role Playing System; it's an RPG.
5.) Gene Seabolt didn't finish the game before writing it.
6.) Inconsistancies, inconsistancies, inconsistancies
Equally, there are some good reasons for why GURPS *is* canon. I tried to list as many as I could think of.
GURPS *is* canon because:
1.) Bungie approved it.
2.) It gives a lot of good ideas, and a lot of it kind of makes sense.
3.) Bungie knows what it's doing?
I cannot see anything else on the side of GURPS that isn't grossly contradicted by something more substantial, and even what I wrote for GURPS still doesn't work
Now, let's make this debate friendly and rather formal. I'd lean toward formal rather than friendly, but I would like it if everyone took it more as a serious debate, trying to avoid sarcasm, joking, trying to demean, etcetera. If one's points are valid, they'll stand alone without support by name-calling and general aggression :-).
