Repost: Getting myself in trouble with Mgt.

I thought that this post should be more clearly seen than doomed to disappear across the Edge of All [posts, prearchives] in a few days. It's also a better thing to keep discussing than GURPS versus Anti-GURPS, as that thread is getting us nowhere, and this following post gives ample evidence to end that argument…ample enough for me, anyway :-).

Hola guys *8)

I will say I love devoted fans, as I've had a few myself *smile*, and the passion you guys bring to the game makes it all the more rich. I also love the debates that occur here and I peek in every once and a while to catch up on the lastest stuff.

That said, lets see if I can get myself in trouble with my boss *grin*.

Scott Campbell is one of the most anal retentive mo fos I've ever met. A compliment to be sure, as on many many occasions I've gone it to ask a quesiton like "can these guys have X or Y on them?" and he'll think for a second and give a qualified response based on all of Myth's original text, of which I am not the expert I'd like to be. He steers us in the right direction constantly, and although I'm sure a few contradictions in the art side may slip in here and there, we are trying our very best to get all of the details straight, all of the time. We are also trying to be creative within this existing world and make sure every new thing you see is rich and has some emotional depth behind it. (think: Empire Strikes Back vs Episode I") ReAnimator is making some breathtaking characters that I can't even mention yet.

As for the GURPS book (and I hope I'm not giving away a secret) Scott's opinion is something like this: The writers of the GURPS book forced Myth's _unique_ views of magic and other cool phenomenea into the existing GURPS system. They made abbreviations in story and device for convenience alone. The reason it's not Canon in his eyes is that it is impure. I certainly mean no offense to the writer of that text, as he was just doing his best to fit a large thing into a single comprehensive book. Scott wants to stick as close as possible to the existing Myth story, and has talked about the original design documents from Bungie many times.

I'd also like to say that statements like "Appologies to Mumbo Jumbo, but I'm beginning to hate Scott Campbell." by Forrest are really uncalled for. I'm opening a huge can of worms for 'standing up' for my boss, but for those of you that have known me for a long time, you know I stand against this kind of behavior ANYWHERE, anytime. If it's not FUN, don't do it.

There are hundreds of people that 'hate' me for making WWII and 'ruining ranked' which is an event I had no way of forseeing and no way of ending, but they hate me all the same. People have even said "Santa is going to *smurf* Myth III in the *asset*". Guys here at MJ make fun of that all the time but the statement was still uncalled for. Making things that are FUN for other people is the greatest joy of my life, and is truely what I live for.

Have faith y'all, and even more importantly, have FUN. It's why we are all here, right?

PS: Thank you again for your devotion. A thing you may not realize is that the devoted following that Myth has generated allowed us to make Myth III. Also please realize that Bungie chose to make Halo after (and during) Myth II. I have no idea of knowing if they had intended to expand on the Myth story or not, but when they got funding from Microsoft to finish the new game and become the Xbox's flagship development team they were largely owned by Take 2. They had to give up rights to Myth to go to MS. I suppose that is kinda like giving one of your kids up for adoption so that the other six can live in safety and happiness. You just have to hope that the one kid goes to a good family. Well I've lived nearly every day with the Myth III family and I can't imagine a better devo team comming together specifically for this project. Yep, this entire team was created, literally from all over the world, for the sole purpose of making Myth III. Bungie even signed off on the story, and the head dude of Bungie dropped by our trailer at E3 and gave us pips. I honestly think you'll like what comes out of this.
