The Leveler and the Player...

... the Player from Marathon that is. Heres a bit of speculation for you all. WARNING: THis is a long winded theory!

What if The Leveler from Myth is merely *a* Leveler? Lets first assume that the Myth World and the Marathon World are two seperate universes. Lets further assume that the Myth World is ONLY the Myth map with its dark side of the world and Light side. That means theres no other planets or anything. Now, what if every one of these universes has a leveler, something that can attempt to keep balance in their universe so that one force never dominates the entire universe. Depending on the world depends on the Leveler.

So in Marathon, the leveler was us, the Player. Nothing created him (sure we could say he was born and all) as he was created by a natural law. The Universe's law. Since the Marathon Universe is so vast a very strong and powerful leveler was not needed because there is enough room for a lot of expansion without conflict. A Leveler would only act when one force comes close to dominating large portions of the universe. Think about it: The player was there to cripple the Pfhor and hinder, but not destroy, their slave empire. The pfhor were obviously gaining too much power and the Leveler decided it was time they fell. I do not believe that the actual cyborg knew any of this, but simply knew what to do. I also believe that the cyborg in Marathon was only a vessel for the Leveler, just like Balor and Moagim. This means that when Durandal is talking about the player being destiny and all, hes really talking about the Leveler. Perhaps the leveler entered another vessel that met with Durandal, perhaps millions of years later... THis all means that all that about the player dying a thousand times is refering to the many Leveler forms that eventually die. Perhaps those names seen in the scrambled KYT terminal were some of his past lives. I believe that the Leveler form in Marathon was probably the greatest since it stopped the Wcha... THOSE CHAOS CREATURES inside that sun! Perhaps the Leveler suddenly realized that those creatures would permenantly topple the Order so it had to bend the rules a little and allowed the Player to start over and try another timeline to stop the chaos. Perhaps in this time with the help of Thoth, the Player was able to figure out a few interesting things about himself...

As for the Myth Leveler: since the Myth world is considerable smaller, the leveler must come more frequent and in more force. It seems to apply just enough force to nearly destroy the Supreme Force at the time. Apparently every 1000 years is when a force reaches its pinacle and most be toppled.

One other note, I believe that the Leveler does have a few rules it seems to follow:

1) It must only act through vessels and never directly. This means it must actually inhabit a being, whether living or once living, and stay within them until it dies or are permenantly trapped.

2) The Leveler shouldn't stay in a vessel forever or it could risk becoming a legend. THis is perhaps what happend with the Myth Leveler. The mere fact that common folk know of it means that it failed somehow and left a clue to its form. Think about this: Would the world function correctly if we knew there was some guy that never died and seemed to effect the universe? I don't think so.

3) Uh... there isn't a three because Im tired of typing.

Well, Im sorry this post is so big, but Ive always wondered this. I know theres a lot of holes and such, but Id like to see what everyone thinks.
