I'm pretty sure it's not scripting, but experience instead. Alric swings significantly faster when he has a lot of experience. For example, in my adventures in fear, at one point I made zerks who could attack things further away than they could see and who could move really fast(like across the map in 4 seconds). One time I played TB with the zerks, and they very quickly killed everything on the map(cept SB, since only Alric can hurt him). What's the point of all this? Well, when I got to soulblighter, Alric had no kills, and Soulblighter started pounding on him. He (Alric) only won because he had absolute max health, and also the zerks might have started auto-attacking SB, causing him to flinch, and even then he had very red health. One time at some point after that, when I was playing with regular units, I made sure to kill absolutely everything I could with Alric. When I got to SB, I healed Alric, then sent him in. Alric started kicking SB's ass, getting him to yellow before Alric had even lost a quarter of his health.
