Yeah the little holes people can poke in the plot or science weren't sufficient enough to take me out of the experience. Exposition complaints? I was expecting swaths of voice-overs explaining simple science - but the worst it got really was one intelligent person explaining a depiction of wormholes to another intelligent person. For like a minute. Whatev. Give those not-in-the-know a little better of an understanding about some of the space/time and relativity effects - a topic by the way I don't think has been nearly as addressed in any sci-fi film ever as in this movie. And I like how they leave unknown things open, and still unknown. What's beyond our existence? Aliens? Higher power? The movie is an exploration of our observable existence and universe, and attempting to grasp and depict concepts that are barely outside our reach (whether physics or metaphysical) - then applying them to the context of our humanity and individuality.
Most (or half?) the scientist and intelligent characters were female as well. And the movie was surprisingly clean! That was a treat for me. :P
It was much better than I had expected by the comments I heard from other friends who saw it. I'm glad i don't take general reviews to heart :)
I would see it again. It's epic in the exploration aspect, and quite character driven, which is awesome - the scope of the plot is universal, while emphasizing the significance of we little individuals on Dirt. Love it.
Other movies I'd say are in a similar vain would be Contact, with some inspiration from 2001, of course.
