Motion Comic Makings-of, and 343's uphill climb... | |

First off, Waypoint has a very cool making-of video for the 2 motion comics they've done so far (Midnight ITHO Midlothian and The Return). I really enjoyed it. It certainly seems like there will be more of these; pretty much EVERY story in Evolutions could be well suited for such a treatment. Side note... I really want to know what is "behind the blur" to the right of Kevin Grace (looks like it's on a whiteboard during one of the interviews with him. In fact, it looks like they've ghillied up and entire section of the office to hide all their spoilerific naughtybits. One thing that had me thinking as I was watching it though... 343 has a real hill to climb when it comes to fan/staff attachment. Other than Frankie himself, I realized I was subconsciousnessly comparing everyone at 343 to Bungie. I almost felt bad for the sound team (who seem to really be on the ball and very talented) as I kept thinking... "But it's not Marty." I know it must be difficult to know you have such a daunting task ahead of you, trying to compare to the relationship that Bungie has cultivated with their fanbase for the past decade (more, really). It's almost unfair to ask of 343, though being truthful, it will be in many ways a dealbreaker. They are going to have to help us fall in love with the 343 team, not just the Halo product they put out. I would imagine I speak for a lot of Halo fans when I say that it has always been a bit easier to cut Bungie some slack on their shortcomings, simply because I felt like I had a strange kinship with the PEOPLE behind the graphics and gameplay. I will say that I certainly applaud the efforts 343 is taking to try and really connect with us; it will certainly help their cause, and I am really looking forward to the next years of Halo itself, just as I am to the next ten years of Bungie... Thoughts are certainly welcome, sorry for the ramble... Grim
