Unless : we are only supposed to believe they have died, two new Spartans have been : killed in the latest Legends video. : This is the breakdown. 75 original Spartan children. 30 are killed by : augmentation, 12 are too injured to be real Spartans, and 33 remain in : active duty. By the time we get to Reach, according to the latest source : of Halo Wars, there are 28 remaining Spartans. This means five total : Spartans died or went missing before Reach. : This includes Kurt, Cal, the two Spartans in the Package, and of course : Samuel. Except we also know Sheila was killed, and there are a handful of : other missing Spartans like Randall, Maria, and the three Spartans from : Spirit of Fire. Now it's possible that we can stretch and guess on the : canon...if say we assume those three got back to the UNSC and were on : Reach, that Maria was actually one of the 12 injured, and Randall also : returned by the time of Reach, one of the Spartans from the Package isn't : really dead, it could perhaps work. But this is an awful lot of stretching : and it seems to me that it is more likely one of those numbers listed : above is no longer canon, and frankly I'd just like to know which one it : is. Did more Spartans survive augmentation then was previously listed? : Were more in the original program than 75? Seriously, there has to be some : kind of explanation. I know it's going to require some retconning, I just : want to know exactly what it is. Seriously, I'd rather they DIDN'T retcon that number. The part of the Spartans that gave them their mystique wasn't just that they were kidnapped and trained from an early age, and then augmented, it was that they survived the war without major losses until the penultimate assault of the Covenant upon Humanity. Killing off Spartans is just unnecessary to a story. Didn't add any feeling to Babysitter, didn't make Failo Wars good, and it didn't make this short 'awesome'. You simply can't make up a lack of time for exposition and character building by killing off 'popular' characters.
