Halo 3 still on top!

Well, the new LIVE Activity rankings are up, and... once again, Call of Duty 4 takes the number 2 seat behind Halo 3!

My thoughts on the subject: (Feel free to skip over and reply with your enthusiasm at Halo 3's dominance on Xbox LIVE)

I think that Call of Duty held people for so long because of its pseudo-RPG element - i.e. ranking up and completing challenges to achieve new unlockables, and especially the notion of Prestige, to encourage people to repeat this process again and again.

For example, single-player games generally only hold people until the single-player storyline is over. Sure, people will replay it, and will still have fun with it, but it ends quickly, just think of how quickly GTA IV lost its number 1 spot. My guess is, because of the number of people who can no longer unlock things in Call of Duty 4, because by now a very large number of people have reached the 10th prestige, and I'm sure a fair share of those have completed all challenges - those people have finally put down this game.

In comparison, Halo 3 is much more difficult to achieve the maximum possible status. People at Grade 4 of their ranks are few and far between, and are almost always Master Sergeants, First Lieutenants, or Staff Captains. Therefore, there is always something to do in Halo 3.

Because of this, until Infinity Ward releases a patch that adds new levels of prestige, the number 1 Halo 3 is likely to stay.
