Typical indeed.

In Response To: weekly update (SPARTAN 294)

Remember how cool it was to sift through the loads of junk in updates and podcasts for tidbits of pre-release Halo 3 information? Me neither. How cool is it now that those tidbits are very few and far between?

I always kind of scoffed at the whole "bungie owes us info!" camp; but man, I'd prefer nothing over decisively evaded questions.

GuiltyLife343 asks:

Any classic Halo CE remakes in the works?

We would not discuss that, nor reveal it in this fashion. Anything is possible. Nothing is certain.

Why even answer that?

Legitt Legit asks:

Are there any intentions on making [sic] a foundry like map set in the open instead of a warehouse?

Reception to Foundry has been really positive. We’re impressed with the types of content that folks have created with the tools at their disposal.

Read: "That depends on what your definition of "is" is."

That wasn't even the question.

Naturally there are many more examples like this, but I don't need paste any more. Reading updates is such a dicey game these days; sometimes you'll get a wonderfully painted picture of a new map (painted with words, of course), and other times you'll get "this map is SERIOUSLY COOL." Thanks luke! :)

And of course you'll get these; that discuss controller layouts and offer hope with a Q&A only to provide nothing worth reading (to me, I know, "someone else" may find the motivations behind the bumper jumper layout utterly fascinating).

I guess this just follows from that obligation to put something out each week, but I'd be content with nothing.

I don't know if I'm alone on this, but it'd be nice to know before I go diving into an update whether or not there is actually any new information. Pre-release, I was content to sift through updates and whatever bones were tossed out; because, every now and then there'd be a little gem that sparks a whole lot of interest. Those gems seem to be so much fewer and far between you feel scorned after each empty update.

I'm sure you're thinking, "No one is forcing you to read it," but all of the major (and official) announcements are made in these things, and yes, I do enjoy the hints that... actually hint toward something and get you thinking.

If there's one thing I've learned, is that the next time I see a Q&A session, I'm instantly aware of the fact that the chances of reading something worthwhile in the update is, to put it politely, slim to fucking none.
