Next Gen games: Voice Recognition | |

I think that the next generation of consoles should have voice recognition built in. It would be linked to a user id / gamer tag so you only train it once. Or, at least, individual per-game training would be fast. Maybe it would use a dedicated chip so as to have no impact on game performance. Ok, so Bungie aren't doing Halo 4 but some game somewhere will have warthog like vehicles and NPCs. Wouldn't it be nice to say, 'Don't drive', 'Hang back', 'Shoot the *%&@!$$ing legs!'? Or, and I'm thinking about a recent Warthog session on Halo 3 Legendary and a side passanger with a fuel rod gun, 'The Wraith's two feet in front of you. Pull the f-ing trigger! before we die AGAIN!!!'. The developers could do more story wise if characters could at least say 'yes' or 'no' or repeat one of the choices given by an NPC. An NPC could say, 'What do you think Chief, a direct assault or try the tunnels?' Even if the game can't understand your reply it would understand an emphatic 'No!' if it guessed wrong and it could then ask if you meant the other option. Then you could say 'yes' and it would take the correct action. What do you think? could you see other occassions where it would be nice to be able to say something to NPCs?
