With the upcoming release of Bungie's next major installment of the Halo series more and more information is being released and there are some features coming up in Halo 3 that should make it really stand out against the previous two games. These features should help Halo 3's single player live up to the reputation of the first, something many people thought Halo 2 didn't do. There are five that really stand out and they are as followed in no particular order.

Improved Brute AI and Strategy

Following the story-line of Halo 2 there is basically a civil war occurring throughout the Covenant forces and the new brutes have divided into different classes much like that of a real military. Higher ranked Brutes will not only have better armor, but also order other troops around and organize their attacks to achieve maximum Master Chief killing power. This new aspect of Halo 3 is definitely going improve the difficulty of the game therefore only allowing the best of the best to beat the game on Legendary.

Suped-up Grunts

I remember my first days of playing Halo and the ease of which a grunt could be dispatched. A single pistol shot to the head, a burst from the assault rifle, or a swift smack to the back of the head and the little dudes dropped dead. However, in Halo 3 they’ve received a few upgrades and are now not only more aggressive but lead developer Frank O’Connor has been quoted as saying they may even charge the player dual-wielding plasma pistols.

Improved Graphics

As with all next-gen games the graphics get a little kick in the butt and Halo 3 is definitely no different. All the screenshots out there are absolutely breathtaking. The scenery is what catches my eye the most; the vegetation is absolutely amazing and the explosions look so realistic one would think they are watching a movie. These top of the line graphics help transform a vastly multi-player game from good to great, and help immerse the player into the world they are playing in. Halo 2 wasn’t nearly as big of a step as people had hoped for, but Halo 3 definitely won’t disappoint in the graphics area.

Online Co-op Play

Something that has been on Bungie’s plate for quite sometime as well as something many players have been hoping and praying for, online co-op makes it possible for up to four people on completely different sides of the planet to play together in the same game and enjoy the single-player campaign. Bungie recently confirmed this would be a feature in Halo 3 via system link or Xbox Live and is a great step up from the previous games online capabilities.

Powered Armor for the Brutes

As mentioned above the Brutes got a little armor upgrade to distinguish between themselves, but it wasn’t just for looks. The new armor is basically a flak jacket for brutes and makes the whole bullet thing pretty much useless. There’s obviously ways around this such as the plasma pistol or the good old melee attack. Regardless of how adept one may become at ‘removing’ their armor for them this will definitely add a nice little challenge to the game on Legendary.

I don't know about the rest of you non-360 owners but while I've never been compelled to own a 360 or play Halo or Halo 2 more than a few times a year, Halo 3 is definitely looking like it will be worth atleast borrowing a friend's 360 to take a go at Halo 3 and see if it's worth the 360 pricetag, granted it's nowhere near the price of a PS3, but the Wii does look like the best deal so far. Guess we will all just have to wait and check out the upcoming games, Halo 3 among them, to see which console truly is worth the money.
