Creating Hunter Costume and affordable props!
Posted By: Daijitsu <daijitsu@gmail.com>Date: 8/18/07 10:05 p.m.

that's right. I'm out of my mind.

I'm currently working on developing my Hunter as a main concern, but as a side note, I've just about perfected creation of the Plasma rifle.

all of my stuff is meant to be extremely cheap while still looking great in pictures, and extremely usable in close-quarters situations such as conventions, where bulky props get in the way, or are turned away at the door.

Here's the plasma rifle (ignore the floral-pattern ironing board)

(you'll have to excuse the link, I'm new here and can't make it show as an image [localized and imagefied -lwu]) - as you can see, it looks absolutely amazing in the picture, and if you think about it, that would probably be where most people would see it.

the surprising thing is that it's actually made of a single layer of foam-core board with a printed image of the rifle on it. the entire thing cost me 5 bucks. I'll be willing to put up a tutorial, even templates if enough of you support it!

I created the rifle to be scale TO ME, not the real thing, so it's about 22-24 inches long by 14 tall, whereas the real thing would be near 36x20-ish. the back end reaches just past my elbow... I wish I had a farther out picture of it so you could get a good idea, but here's a view of The handleso you can see a little more detail and whatnot:

NOW, the project at-hand - THE HUNTER.

I have already constructed (using only $15 worth of foam-core) the entire shield and shoulder piece, along with a ton of support structure on the inside. I'm going to paint it tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) and use an armor-weathering tutorial I found to make it not suck. Here's a few images (with my friend modeling), featuring our amazing work so far-

here's the reference image I'm using -
