Spartan Laser Replica
Posted By: CitizenErased27 <mclrn227@comcast.net>Date: 5/26/07 2:53 a.m.

Ok firstly, Im a long long long time lurker, please have mercy. i was always very intimidated by the layout and operation style of this forum. But now i feel is the time to actually contribute and share with you guys what i am planning to "attempt." lol. I am turning to you guys, the knowledge bank, the experts, for some assistance i need with the developmental stages of project im starting. Well here goes:

(12:29am 5-26)

Okay, so ive decided that I am officially going to attempt a somewhat CRAZY project. I want to build a full size replica of the Spartan Laser. i wanted to know if anyone could help me find any somewhat high resolution pictures of the weapon from any angles available. Im sure i can get the scale and size figured out since an old news article released the length. I checked the HaloWiki and didnt really find too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has the ability to even get some high-res in-game captures, thatd be great too.

i have a couple options of what kind of medium I'm gonna go with. first thing that pops into your head is hard styrofoam and a carving knife. although easy, this wouldnt really give it that weighty feel. I'm not experienced enough to know how to use styrofoam to make a fiberglass mold to then fill with something else. So, im leaning towards a suggestion i recieved from a (rather experienced in the modeling hobby) coworker. he mentioned a form of Balsa wood that he used to use to make things. They sell alot of different shapes and sizes for things like pinewood derby cars and stuff. I figured this might actually be the best way to go. I plan on sizing up the main rectangular structure of the weapon and then adding all of the details with seperate more detailed pieces. I also plan on housing a battery compartment behind the trigger mechanism and wiring it up to a laser pointer like device mounted in the barrel, which is activated upon squeezing the trigger. Any other suggestions and/or ideas are greatly appreciated. Right now all i have is a side view schematic type from the halo3 website but by using math i have the demensions of how big the main structure would be. i also quickly made a mockup out of printer paper just for kicks. just that main piece i was talking about would be 6x36 inches, from a side perspective. take a look at how huge this thing is. lol.

so as you can see, some screencaps with a capture card would really really help. ill attempt to get a closer look with a sniper rifle on highground up in the tower maybe. but if you can help id greatly appreciate it, so i can start to move forward in the development. thanx!

it also appears that the front part which covers the barrel opens and closes vertically. im gonna right now spend some time trying to see how viable it would be to actually make this function, or just have it stationary and open.

you can also see here the shape of the main section I discussed earlier.
