Who remembers the QUESTION? Did you get the ANSWER?
So did HBO help get folks in the Friends and Family Halo 3 Beta? Yep. A few weeks ago we were asked to submit names to F&F with the following strict proviso: we couldn't make it blatant. We couldn't just flatly state "Wanna get in F&F, sign up HERE!" We immediately realized there were small groups of folks that were a great source for entries: the different 'arms' of HBO: IBO, CBO, previous Clan associations, etc. We even threw in folks from previous LAN parties we hosted. It didn't matter if they had a 360, or even XBL. We'd get them an invite and they could take it from there. We wanted to somehow get folks from the forum who weren't just 'regulars'. But how? We couldn't announce it, we couldn't solicit. So I tried to come up with a cute way of capturing your attention if you were a forum reader (lurker or otherwise) and "fooling" you into submitting your email addy. A ploy that would - if you were so inclined - get you to click on my email address and write back to me. You could write ANYTHING back to me. Just your act of emailing me got you on the list. So I came up with some questions. But they were all red herrings. Yah, you could 'answer them' but I didn't care. What was the *real* question? Did you figure it out? It was simply "What's your name and email address?" A good handful of you did reply. And apparently it was enticing enough that even folks associated with Bungie were writing in - trying to figure out what I was getting at with all those cryptic posts. heh. Even if you were stumped by the trivia questions, google could've helped you out (how do you think I pulled up a bunch of them?). Some of you sent in really detailed answers to all the questions. I applaud you for taking the time and energy to do that. I feel a little guilty that I couldn't offer you anything more than if someone had just emailed me "Hey, what's going on?" Regardless, for those of you that were willing to click on the email addy, I'm glad I was able to help get you into F&F! Some folks have asked what exactly the answers were to the questions, so here they are, in no particular order: Who remembers the dwarf, ambling around the jeep on the top of Silent Cartographer?
Who remembers once I was free and free I shall be once again?
Who remembers the dude that lost his car?
Who remembers the banner that wasn't a banner?
Who remembers Click?
Who remembers the front page?
Who remembers Soon™?
Who remembers Brian?
Who remembers falling face first into the snow, then looking back and seeing the den?
Who remembers the basis for a lagrange point threshold?
Who remembers when the jeep was built Ford Tough?
Who remembers the marines running around screaming with needlers in them?
Who remembers gnat? DeAdLy_cOoKiE? KORHAL (version 1.0)?
Does she hum while you're asleep?
Here are some others that were in the same vein: What does hot plasma mixed with Elite entrails smell like? Why was there never time to put your hands down? Did those arrows on the floor really help? Why doesn't the air fall off the edge? I might as well show you the rest of the questions I had but never got around to using. One was too obvious, one was another machinima mention which I was getting tired of, and one is obscure and pretty funny if you've been around long enough. I'm talking pre-Halo Bungie days. Who remembers a Hunter helping the MC land across the map room in Silent Cartographer? Who remembers the piano music on the snowy metal structures by your Banshee? Who remembers the ass on the keyboard? Well, back to regular business. Move along folks. ;) - Miguel
