Name change: first stage...

I'm changing my name and here's the story:

Back in November of '03, I shed my lurker-only skin and dove into the world of posting on the HBO forums. My friends called me by my last name, Dewberry, or quite often "dewbe" (for short) or even sometimes doob (for even shorter). I was a forum "noob" at the time, so I went with the name "doob the noob". After about 4 posts I realized that one day I would not be a "noob" and my name would suck. I needed a change. My Halo profile was called "Max Power" because I impulsively named it after I was watching some Simpsons. So I adopted it here and added my real name in parenthesis because I don't like being completely anonymous. So in late November of 2003, Max Power (aka- dewbe) was born.

After a coupe of months, I regretted my name choice. It just wasn't ME, you know. But I figured I had earned a little reputation/respect with it and didn't want to start over. I kept it. For 37 months I've kept it. I've seen every new piece of information Bungie had to offer torn to shreds by this forum, I've seen puzzles concocted and solved by this forum, I've seen grown men crying naked on this forum, and I've been along for the whole ride under a name that just isn't ME. Well, I've had enough of it. By the time Halo 3 comes out, you will all know me by a different name.

"pooberry" is a name given to me by my friend and co-worker, Jason. It was cleverly derived from my gievn name of Dewberry and incorporates a common euphemism for excrement. He didn't say it in a mocking way but rather in a way that mocked someone who would mock someone's name. I loved it. When it came time to sign up for Xbox live (a couple of months before Halo 2 launched) I went with poobery and I haven't regretted it one bit. I've since signed up for several online profile under the name, YouTube for example.

I've seen forum regulars change their name and it's never worked well enough to make me want to do it. It took me years before I learned that Saint was Scim. The ElBastard/Pratch/Wayward Spleen transformation is another example. So, since I already have the luxury of having two names, I'm going to use that to my advantage. Starting now, I will post under the name "Max Power (pooberry)." In about 5 or 6 months, I will transition to "pooberry (Max Power) and by the time Halo 3 launches (presumably in late 2007) I can simply go by "pooberry" and no one will wonder why this guy sounds so familiar.

So get used to it, because Im not going anywhere for a long time.
