Spoiler Guidelines (NOT a spoiler)
Posted By: vector40 <vector40@aol.com>Date: 11/2/01 9:30 p.m.

Okay, people seem a little confused here, so I thought I'd lay down some general guidelines regarding posting of spoiler information.
First.

  1. When posting a spoiler, place an *SP* tag in the title of your message, preferably at the end.
  2. Inside the post, for the sake of the idiotic/illiterate/randomly clicking, place a SPOILER! warning followed by at least a screen's worth of blank space. Honestly, it takes about four seconds. Humor me.
  3. When in doubt about the spoiler-ish nature of a piece of information, err on the safe side and mark it.

Okay, now to the issue of what a spoiler is, exactly. A spoiler, in my mind, is a post that contains information about Halo—probably, about the storyline, but general gameplay facts can be included here as well—that I do not know and would not want to. Basically, if you know something more than the average forumgoer, and it has any importance whatsoever, then it's a spoiler. Some random speculation by a person as uninformed as you or I is NOT as spoiler—because, even if he happens to be right, he doesn't know any more than me, anyway, so it's just theorizing. So don't mark it as a spoiler, because people will think you broke in to Bungie and played Halo and know all sorts of juicy tidbits about the plot that they don't want to hear before they play.

Okay, well, if anybody has any other ideas or butchering modifications to make, by all means, suggest them, but for now I'm running with this. PLEASE follow the rules—it will make everybody's time one hell of a lot easier. I suppose it would be too much to ask to have Louis enforce them, but people can at least make the attempt. And if you see a post that's spoiling, but unmarked, reply with a *SP* ABOVE or something like that in the subject line to warn folks off.

End.
