Joseph Staten (Class of 1994) gave a talk today at Northwestern University titled "HALO: The Great Journey from Chicago to Redmond and Beyond". The synopsis given was "The story of how one former theater major (and 60 other hardworking nerds) turned a good idea, smart code, beautiful art, and energetic music into one of the most acclaimed, best-selling video games ever. In its first day of sales, HALO 2 grossed $125 million. If you own an XBOX, or know someone who does, you won't want to miss the behind-the-scenes story of the HALO phenomenon." The talk was great. It wasn't anything that isn't probably already known but Joseph was nice enough to fly straight from here from New Zealand where he said he was meeting with P.J. and some of his fx people. He gave an overview of his background, how he landed his job, and the evolution of Halo from the Blam! project. There was a brief question and answer session afterwards where you knew people were going to ask about "The Next Project" but he ended his talk on a "I can't say much about the next project" note. The two things that are sort of obvious, weren't said explicitly but were hinted at, were that 1) Bungie would be stupid to not make Halo 3 eventually and 2)they would have something at E3. If I remember correctly, he said something along the lines of "We're not planning on it at the moment but if this meeting was after E3, I think the questions would be in a different direction". Hopefully, the audio was captured properly because all of the talks today are supposed to be put online at some point (just audio). If and when I hear something about that, I will post a link but it would be through the NU Alumni Association. - Sleeper Q (the guy who helped him fix his display so he could show the E3 trailer from when Halo2 got announced.... :) )
