In Response To: Re: I didn't bother reading the Weekly Update (Cody Miller) : I feel a sense of arrogance coming from Bungie. I hope the idea for the next
No less self indulgent than believing that because you're not interested in something, nobody is. "Oh my god, they're talking about themselves, again. Who cares about Bungie? All I care about is the next game." Well, Billy, Bungie fans are people that are interested in Bungie, as well. I'm not pointing that out to say that "Bungie fans" are better than "Halo fans," or whatever the tired arguments are. I said it to point out that yes, there are people that are actually genuinely interested in Bungie proper, and are just as interested in the people behind the games as they are in the games themselves. But when did it start making sense that if someone doesn't do exactly what you want them to, they're the ones that are being arrogant? I think when a lot of people came into the community after discovering Halo, they learned of Bungie's connection with the community, but misinterpreted it. People have become so used to media extraveganza's, information blowouts, and gigantic hype engines that Bungie's relative silence at the beginning of development on a new title is a completely foreign concept to them. It's really not new, though. It's harder to do now that the community is so huge, but Bungie likes to keep a somewhat human relationship with the fans. So, when fans show interest in us, we try to oblige. It is especially nice when there's very little to speak of, because we don't feel we're ready to talk about the actual project, yet. If you don't like the Weekly Update, here's a suggestion: Don't read it. The majority of the complaints I'm hearing really seem to boil down to impatience amongst the people that have no actual interest in anything other than the next game. So, let me give it all to you straight: We will not talk about development until we're ready to talk about development. Period. If development is all you're interested in; the current Weekly What's Updates are not for you. Feel free to browse the rest of the internet. When we do talk about our upcoming project, someone will be sure to tell one of the sites you frequent, and you'll be sure to find out. -S |
