In Response To: videogames as art....not a problem *long* (jman571)
I think that the most potential for the future lies in the MMO idea. Why not create a seperate universe, with one timeline, and the story is entirely dictated by the players? Instead of having the repetitive, universal experiences Narcogen complains about, the world would have a history. You could look back and say, "I remember when [insert username] organized this massive party and took over the impenetrable fort, or that time when a new city was founded, or when some amazing, unbeatable player sacrificed himself so that...", and these events could be recorded, and there would be a real world. Everyone could potentially leave their mark, but it would take hard work, the right circumstances, and a good bit of luck.
What would we learn about human nature and civilization then, looking at a history and culture that develops? Would it be beautiful? Would it be insightful? Would it not also be continually improving and evolving, with many artists shaping it? And would it not be so utterly different from any other meduim?
