In Response To: SILENT CART.. SPEED RUN, UNDER 4MINS (l3Dl SHREK 2)

Wow, cool.

I compared this to Goatrope's winning run from the GNF contest. (This was one of the few runs where difficulty was pretty irrelevant... but not TOTALLY irrelevant. Let me know if I missed anything. :) )

Getting to the first hog: They're neck and neck - to the second.

By the time they get inside the structure, though, insidi0us is ahead - I stopped both films at the point where the hogs are about 45 degrees between the first passageway and its right angle turn, and insidi0us is up by 3 seconds.

By the time they activate the cartographer, he's gained ANOTHER 2 seconds. (None of this is difficulty-dependent; neither one has actually fought anything for real by this point.)

The technique used by insidi0us to grenade jump up to the invisibility is a bit slicker - and by now, there HAS been a little fighting - but maybe not enough to warrant a time adjustment. By the top of that ramp (the doorway into the large room), insidi0us is 13 seconds ahead. WOW! (I wouldn't have believed that was possible, actually.)

The next jumping sequence, once again, insidi0us picks a shorter route and shaves some extra time off - by the beginning of the next U-shaped ledge, he's added 2 more seconds to his lead.

That grenade throw to shorten the distance is gorgeous - but doesn't save any real time, it seems; he's STILL 15 seconds ahead when they pass the hunters.

The elite at the door to the final passage before the gold elite is a timesink for goat, while insidi0us simply waltzes past. It's unclear whether goat could have done the same - I suppose that taking the chance (and guessing wrong) would have ruined the entire run, and so wasn't worth the risk. (I'd be curious to know if they acted differently on normal vs legendary, actually.) At the last corner before the gold elite, goat is behind by 16 seconds.

Somehow, the gap grows by another 3 seconds before they get into their respective hogs. THIS is almost certainly difficulty-dependent; had goat tried to do what insidi0us did, he'd have been sliced.

The final drive up - insidi0us does a little better, adding a second or maybe 2 to his lead - but once outside, the difficulty differences become obvious. The last 6 seconds that goat loses? I think there's no way he could have avoided them without dying.

Still - I think a sub-4 minute run is quite possible, even on Legendary; more than 15 seconds (and maybe as many as 20) of goat's time could have been shaved off using the techniques in insidi0us' run, in non-fighting areas.

Great stuff!
