I simply can't agree with your rant. Cheating is bad, and in respects to not cheating, I agree with you, but the other half of your extremely well written letter is off.
For one, you're grouping adolescents and competitive gamers in the same category as cheaters. Thats not cool, as not all of these people cheat. Sure, every so often, somebody will standby or dummy in a game, but it's not every single person in matchmaking who does it.
And about playing for fun, thats all well and good, but if you wanna play in matchmaking, expect it to be competitive. That's what Bungie made it for. BTB, Rumble Pit, Team Skirmish, they were all designed to rank whore. They were designed for competition. If you're not having fun competeing, play custom games with your friends. Thats what custom games are for.
And you shouldn't be bashing 13 year old kids for being 13 year old kids. That's exactly what they are. Teenagers, especially young teenagers, are extremely competitive in everything they do because they're still at the age where they're yearning for admiration, and most of the time, they get it when they win at something.
With video games becoming more and more mainstream, more and more people are joining the playfield. People from all over, old, young, male, female, everyone is getting into gaming. And Halo is a competitive game. For you to expect to play this, and want people to not be so competitive, is ver naive on your part.
I agree with you that people using racial slurs, or condescending remarks towards there teammates, is wrong, but I do not feel it is right to group them with cheaters, and I also do not take my anger out on them. I recognize that some people are extremely competitive, and just tend to shut them out when they start to go on about my lack of skill with a sniper rifle or rocket launcher, I do not bash and rant at them.
