The Honeymoon's Over People | |

I had to turn off my X-Box today, because I could have sworn I was about to have a nervous breakdown. The honeymoon's over Bungie, and I'm beginning to pick up things about the game I had never picked up before. You know what I realized about Halo 2 and the difference from Halo 1? In Halo 1, you only had the Campaign and the System Link. Of course we didn't bitch about the Campaign that much, the only thing we had to fall back on was a spectacular System Link option. But now, Halo 2 has come out and everyone complains because the X Box Live component is probably the main feature to the game. You know what? You're wrong. People are the main feature of the game. An Open Letter To All Those Who Cheat: Okay, I'm pretty sure that Bungie put in the levels to ensure that matchmaking was on a level. If I hear one more 13 year old yell at another player about how the other guy should pick it up so that he won't lose a level, I will kill someone. I'm dead serious. What is SO damn important about moving up from a 15 to a 16? I mean, isn't it just the same as when you moved up from 1 to 2? What do you win when you finally gain a level? A car? A refrigerator? A new computer? A copy of Halo signed by all the workers ar Bungie? NO. I don't get the repeated emphasis on this leveling up. I mean, I could understand leveling up in an RPG, hell, it was to give you a chance to beat that final boss at the end of the game. In Halo 2 XBL? There is no final boss, there is no grand prize, there is no rewarding ending for being a pain in the ass to not only your opponent but to your teammate.
I'll just die if I ever have to hear this again. "Triple Kill!" Wow, just great dumbsh*t, the Objective is to Capture the Flag. How many times must I get shot in the back whenever I even walk NEAR a sniper rifle? And haven't you noticed how everytime someone yells for the sniper or the sword, they are under one of two categories: a. They really don't know how to use it, but think it's a cool weapon.
I mean, I work and study. I don't have time to sit down all day and play this game to no end. I remember the days when I could sit down with my Gameboy and play Tetris. It was FUN. I remember when I could play some Goldeneye on 64 with three of my best friends. SURE, we yelled at each other and probably punched each other in the face a few times, but damnit, they were my friends. That doesn't give anyone else the right to yell out racist remarks or to tell anyone that they suck. I usually find myself at the PostGame Carnage Report, and just when I am about to say "Good game" regardless of whether I lost or won, there is always some high-pitched voice that goes: OH you suck, I had more kills, I had more medals, I had more headshots, I had less deaths, I am the Halo God, and you must bow down to me. Jesus. What's worse is when I win a game with my team and the guy with the most kills on the losing team has to pick on the opposing player with least kills. Very sportsman-like conduct. I am a person with a life, and I enjoy that and value it highly, but sometimes I have to wonder, do these kids even go to school at time? I find myself playing online with a 12 year old at 11 AM on a Wednesday morning and he keeps yelling at me about how he is a level 15 and I suck because I am only a 13. Well you know what? You were a level 12 at sometime and now you're a 15, so you guess what, I guess someone who is an 18 thinks YOU SUCK. God, where are all the people that just ENJOY playing the game. I mean, I do know there are an elite few, Geezer Games, some here at the forum, and my own kinfolk, the Seasoned Gamers. But it just gets ridiculous when I have to play in a BTB game and I keep getting blue screened. What, you can't handle that I have a sniper rifle and you don't? So that's the way you solve the problem? You know what, you're RIGHT! I do suck. I suck because I play the game to have fun. I suck because I play the game the way it's supposed to be played. I suck because I have the balls to quit in the middle of a game because someone on MY team is standbying. I suck because I can't be on online ALL day while you are on pressing that little button on your modem. Yeah, I suck because I don't go on all the forums all day looking for new tricks and cheats. I most definitely suck because I can't live up to your standards, I can't help you keep up rank, and I am most definitely not going to cheat. Where are all the people that stand up to them? I've seen few. I've seen teams that say that cheating is horrible, but if they have someone who knows how to standby, they'll let it go, just to get a victory. And what the hell does a victory mean in this game anyway? NOTHING. You don't get anything at all. You know what happens when I might eventually get to a level 14 in Team Slayer? The number on the right changes from a 3 to a 4. That's it. I do not get laid for it. I will not get a raise at my job. I will not get an automatic A in my Mercantile Law class. I will not be getting a personalized letter from Bungie to thank me on my wonderful achievement. The game... is to play... for FUN. Why cheat? What does it get you? Does it get you laid? Does it get you a pay raise? Does it make you look cool at school? "Oh yeah, I'm a level 20, lick my shoes." Try to learn to PLAY the game for once, you might discover the marvels hidden in them. It might be fun to actually CAPTURE the flag with a few of your bodies, and OH the sense of relief when you guys finally plant that bomb and you know you EARNED it. But you know what, at the end of the day, no one remembers those few moments, no one gives a crap if you were a 3 or a 20. Because you know what, I'd rather have a 3 on my team and have him level up because I helped him and played as a team, than to see a 19 rise to a 20 yelling out how he got a Killtacular on his own. Oh, and guys, all those comments to the girls, they're not cool. Sincerely yours,
|
