Murals the Covenant Ages, ***Long***
Posted By: GryphonOsiris <GryphonOsiris@aol.com>Date: 1/26/05 6:43 p.m.

Ok, been a while since I posted any wild theories.... and well, need to fill that void.

As most of us know the Ages of the Covenant panels from the LE DVD were posted on the story page (Thanks Jilly). And well, since I have nothing to do at work right now, and would love to through out some wild ideas, lets go through them one by one.

1st one: There is the obvious Elite/Prophet Melee in the upper left corner, but notice that the Elite is using a spear/halberd of some sort, take notes for later. The Forerunner artifact doesn't look like Forerunner ship in High Charity, in fact it looks like one of the energy towers from the "Halo" part of Halo 1 (also see in Infinity map in Halo PC) Without a better angle on it I can't make out what it might be. Could be a ship, could be a piece of art-deco, who knows... either way, it shows that the Prophets found it first and used it to subjugate the Elites and start an Empire.

2nd one: Pretty basic, it's the taming of the Hunters, with the Elite on top of the pile being the Arbiter. Take notice though that he is still using the spear/halberd as his weapon of honor, curious, isn't it?

3rd one: Prophets and Elites up top, everyone else... back of the bus... er... starship. Well moving on, they are missing the engineers, which makes me wonder if they will ever be officially listed as a covenant race (they broke the 7 theory when they introduced the drones, damn buggers). If the pictures can be trusted for a sense of scale, then the unidentified race on the left if larger than a Hunter, by at least half I'd say. Also take notice that the Elites still use spear/halberd weapons as their choice weapon of honor. The Prophets are also floating, probably to give them the look of being semi-divine, or higher than the "ground-walkers". Small note, I agree that the large creature has an Easter egg in it's hands, good call mate.

4th one: Based on the name and what is depicted in this panel, they discovered a plasma sword in a chamber under the Forerunner artifact (yeah I know, duh smart guy). This plays back to the whole spear/halberd note. The Prophets gave the Elites the honor of wielding the plasma sword, the weapon of the gods. Think of it like the whole light saber deal, "not as clumbsy or random as a blaster, a civilized weapon for a more civilized era". You get the drift.

5th one: Well, this one can be taken many ways. The obvious is that it is showing the Halo network over the Milky Way Galaxy. The fact that this is after the finding of the plasma swords says to me that they learned about it in the chamber under the artifact, perhaps up to that point it was though of as heracy to disturb it, but that's for another day. The fact that it is called the Age of Conversion can mean theat their religion was changed, converted more accurately to deal with the new information about the Forerunners and their Technology. Again, a debate for later.

6th one: This one looks like the firing of a Halo Installation to me. The Rays of energy coming off could be the prime weapon, and the eye in the center is the energy build up we say in Halo 2. The mean, however is not that the Covenant fired one, but more they were in doubt about about what would happen when this "Holy Artifact" was activated. There very well might have been a fear that it would destry them all, but again, a debate for later.

7th one: Final mural. The fact that only a Prophet and an Elite are shown is very significant to me. It looks like they are activating the Halo in order to accend like they believe the Forerunners did, to reclaim to the destiny left to them. This could also be a reason for Truth's betrayal of the Elites, that he doesn't want to share this honor, that he should be the only one to accend and meet the Forerunners.

O.k, now that that is down, let the debating begin!
